Privacy (Datenschutz)

This policy explains what personal data is processed when you visit this website, download our games or send feedback from inside a game, why, and what your rights are under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

2. The short version

This website sets no cookies, uses no analytics or tracking, and loads nothing from third parties; fonts and all other files come from our own server. Personal data is only processed to deliver the website and downloads, to answer you when you write to us, and to handle feedback you choose to send from one of our games.

3. Hosting

The website, the downloads and the feedback service run on a server we rent from STRATO GmbH, Otto-Ostrowski-Straße 7, 10249 Berlin, Germany. The server is located in Germany. STRATO processes data only on our behalf and according to our instructions, under a data processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR. Data is not transferred to countries outside the European Union.

4. Visiting the website and downloading games

When you open a page or download a file, your browser necessarily sends technical data to our server: your IP address, the date and time, the requested address, the amount of data transferred, and your browser's user agent and referrer. The server needs this to deliver the content to you and to keep the service secure and stable.

We do not keep access logs of page views or downloads. Technical error logs of the server may contain IP addresses; they are deleted automatically after 14 days. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in providing a secure, working website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

The download page detects your operating system in your browser to suggest the right build. This happens only on your device and nothing is sent to us.

All connections to this website are encrypted with TLS (HTTPS).

5. Contacting us by e-mail

If you e-mail us, we process your e-mail address, your name if given, and the content of your message to handle your request. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where your request relates to a contract or steps before one, and otherwise our legitimate interest in answering you (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We delete your messages once your request has been fully dealt with, unless statutory retention periods (for example under German commercial or tax law) require us to keep them longer.

6. In-game feedback and surveys

Builds of our games contain a feedback feature. Nothing is sent unless you actively submit a feedback report or a survey. When you do, the following is transmitted to our server:

  • what you enter: your message, the chosen category or rating, and your survey answers;
  • the name you enter in the feedback form, if any (optional; it can be a nickname);
  • a random player ID that the game creates on first start. It identifies your installation, not you, and is not linked to any account or device identifier;
  • a screenshot of the game window (only the game, not your desktop) taken when you open the feedback form, unless you switch it off in the form;
  • information about your game session: game version, the current screen, progress in the current run (for example party, cards, items, gold, encounter and the game's random seed), a copy of the run's save state and recent game events.

We use this data only to find bugs, balance the game and improve it. Your IP address is processed when the report is received and held briefly in memory to protect the service against abuse (rate limiting); it is not stored with your report.

The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you give by submitting the report. You can withdraw it at any time with effect for the future by contacting us; the reports you sent will then be deleted. Sending feedback is voluntary and not required to play.

Feedback reports and their screenshots are stored on our server in Germany (see section 3) and can only be accessed by members of our team. They are deleted as soon as they are no longer needed to develop the game, and at the latest 24 months after we receive them.

7. Recipients

Apart from our hosting provider (section 3), we do not share your data with anyone, and we do not sell it. We only pass data to authorities where we are legally required to.

8. Your rights

Regarding your personal data, you have the right to:

  • access (Art. 15 GDPR),
  • rectification (Art. 16 GDPR),
  • erasure (Art. 17 GDPR),
  • restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR),
  • data portability (Art. 20 GDPR),
  • object to processing based on our legitimate interests (Art. 21 GDPR), on grounds relating to your particular situation,
  • withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future (Art. 7(3) GDPR).

To exercise these rights, e-mail us at hello@chixsaw-studios.com. For feedback reports, tell us the name you entered and roughly when you sent them, so we can find them.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR), for example the one responsible for us: Der Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz und die Informationsfreiheit Baden-Württemberg.

9. Automated decisions

We do not use automated decision-making or profiling within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR.

10. Changes

We update this policy when our website, our games or the law change. The current version is always available on this page.
